April 24 - May 23
Beginning Wednesday, April 24 at 6:15pm or Thursday, April 25 at 10:30am in the Parish Hall, Fr. Tom will lead an in-depth inductive Bible Study on Forgiveness and Reconciliation as found in the New Testament Book of Philemon.
The first week will feature a one-hour ‘Walk Through the Bible’ by Jack Bottomley. Over the remaining four weeks Fr. Tom will present for thirty minutes on Philemon followed by thirty minutes of small groups. A pot luck supper will be provided each Wednesday evening and breakfast appetizers will appear each Thursday morning.
Printed copies of Philemon from the English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible will be provided. You are invited to bring your favorite Bible - bound or digital - to follow the text of Philemon. Additionally, if you are comfortable marking up your Bible (highly encouraged) bring a sleeve of colored pencils for that purpose. This will be a fun, working Bible study for all.
J. B. Phillips wrote that Philemon is a ‘‘charming and intimate letter written by Paul, imprisoned in Rome, to a dear friend, Philemon, whose slave Onesimus had run away from him and come under Paul’s influence in Rome. Onesimus not only became a Christian but became very dear to Paul. They both realize, however, Onesimus must return to his master and Paul sends him back with this ‘cover’ letter’.
Would you like to explore this brief New Testament letter with us? Please let us know your interest. Beginning right after Easter, look for sign up sheets in the narthex, the back of the chapel, and the church office. Come join us for this Wednesday evening supper and Thursday morning experience here at Holy Trinity. For more information contact Fr. Bob (frbob@holytrinitymelbourne.org) or Fr. Dave (frdave@holytrinitymelbourne.org).
