Baptism is a 'sacrament' -- a visible sign of God's love. In Baptism, we are thanking God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledging his love. We are acknowledging that we all need to turn away from selfishness and evil and to accept God’s offer of a new start. In Baptism, God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ’s Body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God. For adults who want to be baptized: You are probably inquiring about Baptism because you have recently committed your life to Christ. May God bless and guide you on this new faith journey. In Baptism you are asked to publicly renounce Satan and turn to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. The exact questions are on pages 302 and 303 in The Book of Common Prayer. Please call the church office and make an appointment with one of the clergy to learn more about preparing for Baptism. For parents who want to have their child baptized: We’re delighted you’re thinking of Baptism for your child. Your child is precious to you and precious to God. At Baptism you promise to raise your child to know God loves them, and to help them to follow Jesus as a member of the Church. In Baptism, you as parents are: thanking God for his gift of life, making a decision to start your child on the journey of faith and asking for the Church's support. For your child, Baptism marks the start of a journey of faith, which involves turning away from all that is evil, turning towards Christ and becoming a member of the local and worldwide Christian family. Your child's Baptism will normally take place during one of our weekend worship services. This is so that your child can be seen to be joining the family of the Church and be welcomed into membership. In turn the Church will promise to support and pray for you and your child. Prior to your child’s Baptism, you will have an opportunity to meet with one of the clergy to learn more about this sacrament and how to raise your child in the Christian faith. Please call the church office to make an appointment or just speak to one of the clergy at church.
